One of the Scariest lockouts I did was for a family who had not seen their Uncle for a couple of weeks. I meet the family and Police at the apartment building and before we even entered the main front door you could smell death in the air.
Entering the lobby the smell was more over powering. The police officer and I walked down the hallway towards the apartment and as we got closer the smell was overpowering. At the front of the condo door the smell was now overwhelming and it was hard not to vomit. I have no idea why no one in the building was complaining about the terrible stench.
The Police officer wanted to kick the door in and I said “it will only take me 30 seconds to pick the lock open, worst case less than 2 minutes (inexpensive Weiser deadbolt). Besides, the guy was probably dead for some time no, more than a few days and 2 more minutes would not make a difference! Also preserve evidence in case it was a death from unnatural causes.
