Phillips Electronic Deadbolt – Unboxing, Programming, Installation & Rekeying | Mr. Locksmith
Hi, I’m Terry from Mr. Locksmith. Today I’m unboxing, installing, programming, and re-keying the Phillips Electronic Deadbolt—a smart lock that’s been sold internationally under various brand names for years but is still relatively new to the North American market.
It’s now showing up at Costco (with a handle set bundle), Amazon, and other retailers, and so far it looks like a surprisingly good deal. This model includes auto-lock, Bluetooth app control, fingerprint reader, PIN codes, key override, and more. While it doesn’t appear to have Wi-Fi, the Bluetooth app is well-designed and easy to use.
This was my first time rekeying one, so I put it through its paces to see how it truly performs.
Unboxing the Phillips Electronic Deadbolt
Right out of the box, this lock is heavy, solid, and well-built.
Inside the package:
-
Lock body and interior assembly
-
Adjustable backset
-
User manual
-
Two SC1 (5‑pin) keys
-
Bolt and faceplate
-
A door position sensor (rare on many smart locks)
-
Hardware
-
Batteries included — a personal pet peeve when manufacturers don’t include them
Two things stood out immediately:
-
Reinforced cable protection – much sturdier than most electronic deadbolts
-
Drive-in latch option included – though I prefer faceplates for long-term durability
Overall, my first impression was very positive.

Installation: Solid Build & Smooth Fit
This lock requires a full 2‑1/8″ hole because the protected cable is thicker than typical smart lock wiring. Once the bolt was set to the proper backset, installation was straightforward:
-
Bolt installed cleanly
-
Faceplate mounted snugly
-
Cable routed safely through the guide channel
-
Ice‑pick strike protector in place
-
Interior assembly snapped in securely using the improved tab design
After inserting the batteries, the lock auto-calibrated immediately.
Even without reading the instructions, everything was intuitive.
Testing the Key Override
I always test mechanical override keys on electronic locks.
This one worked perfectly:
-
Smooth rotation
-
Clean mechanical action
-
No binding
A great sign for long-term reliability.
Programming: One of the Best Voice Interfaces I’ve Seen
The Phillips Electronic Deadbolt includes full voice-prompt programming, and honestly—it’s excellent.
Without opening the manual, I was able to:
-
Reset the lock
-
Change the master PIN code
-
Add user PIN codes
-
Enroll fingerprints
-
Adjust re-lock timing
-
Enable Away Mode
-
Navigate all setup options
-
Test the lock repeatedly
When I made a mistake, the voice prompts corrected me.
It feels like programming an iPhone—simple and fast.
Rekeying the Cylinder: Surprisingly Good Quality
Time for the real test: rekeying.
Once disassembled, I removed the SC1 cylinder. Many offshore locks fail this step—but this one impressed me.
Inside the cylinder:
-
Standard top pins
-
Mushroom drivers in chambers 3 and 4 (moderate pick resistance)
-
Clean tolerances
-
Smooth plug rotation
I rekeyed the lock using standard SC1/5‑pin depths, and it keyed up perfectly.
This is rare. Many offshore cylinders fail after the second pin due to poor spacing and machining.
Downside:
The housing will not accept a 6‑pin high-security cylinder—it physically interferes with the bolt.
This is likely intentional.

Final Verdict: A Surprisingly Excellent Smart Lock
I’m extremely impressed with the Phillips Electronic Deadbolt.
What I Liked:
-
Heavy-duty construction
-
Reinforced wiring protection
-
Auto-calibration
-
Smooth mechanical key override
-
Excellent voice-prompt programming
-
Easy rekeying
-
Fingerprint, PIN, key, and app unlock options
-
AES‑128 enhanced encryption
-
Solid bolt and hardware quality
-
Door position sensor
What I Didn’t:
-
No 6‑pin cylinder upgrade option
-
No built-in Wi-Fi (Bluetooth only)
Overall:
One of the best offshore smart locks I’ve tested in years.
It installs cleanly, programs easily, and keys up perfectly.
I’ll be installing this on a test door for a 1‑month and 3‑month review—and I’ll also be testing Phillips’ upcoming smart module that can convert mechanical high-security deadbolts into full-featured electronic locks.
