Unlock Your Door Every Time: How To Use The Key Override On A Schlage BE365 Deadbolt
Hi everyone, Terry from Mr. Locksmith here! When it comes to keyless entry deadbolts, especially electronic ones, the **Schlage BE365** series is consistently one of my top favorites. They are incredibly heavy-duty, built to last, and are true workhorses that reliably get the job done.
One of the best features of the Schlage BE365 is its reliable key override. This is a crucial feature that ensures you can always get into your home, even if the battery is completely dead or you’ve forgotten your user code. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through exactly how to use the key to open this deadbolt.
Using the Key Override on Your Schlage BE365 Deadbolt
The key override on the Schlage BE365 is straightforward and designed for ease of use in emergency situations. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Insert Key: Fully insert your physical key into the cylinder.
- Rotate Key to Recess Cylinder: Turn the key to engage the cylinder, causing it to recess slightly into the lock.
- Rotate Key 270° to Unlock: Continue rotating the key approximately 270 degrees (three-quarters of a full turn) to retract the deadbolt.
- Rotate Knob/Lever to Open Door: While holding the key in the unlocked position, turn the interior knob or lever to open the door.
- Rotate Key Back to Relock: Once the door is open, rotate the key back to its original starting position (where it was inserted) to re-engage the deadbolt.
Note: The key cannot be removed from the cylinder while the lock is in the unlocked position. This is a safety feature to ensure the door is relocked before the key is withdrawn.
Why We Love the Schlage BE365 Deadbolt
The Schlage BE365 is more than just a simple electronic deadbolt; it’s a reliable security solution for residential single and multi-family doors. Here are some of its key features that make it a standout:
- Access Codes: Comes with 2 pre-set unique 4-digit access codes and has storage for up to 19 additional access codes, making it easy to manage access for family, friends, or service providers.
- Battery Power: Operates on a single 9V battery, providing convenient power.
- Keying: Features a 5-pin tumbler Schlage C keyway override, ensuring a robust mechanical backup.
- Durability: Known for its heavy-duty construction, this lock is built to withstand daily use and provide long-lasting security.
