The lock and door may be aligned perfectly, but if the hole in the door frame isn’t deep enough, the deadbolt can’t extend fully and secure the door.

Deepen the strike hole:

Chisel out material: Use a chisel to carefully remove wood from the door jamb until the strike plate hole is deep enough to accommodate the deadbolt’s throw.
