WD-40 silicone vs WD-40
There are a lot of lubricants to decide to use. My old standby is Tri-Flow. I have always liked this one. It is silicon based. A lot of people use WD-40 just the basic one. It is a penetrating oil, It is not a lock lubricant. But for sticky locks or or a lock that’s jammed up on you WD-40 is is a nice start because it’s a penetrating oil but it does not lubricate your lock. If your lock is sticky do not put oil in it, WD-40 is a penetrating oil so it’s not a lubricant so it’s good sometimes to help you unstick a lock a door lock but uh it’s a penetrating oil it’s not a lubricant the one my go-to is Tri-Flow it is a silicone-based lubricant. There is 3 in 1, all sorts of dry lubricants and wet lubricants now to unstick a lock. I like a wet lubricant and we will talk about the different ones in another video a fairly new product is WD-40 has a silicon based lubricant.
WD40 Silicone Ideal for Sticky Locks
I have a sticking car door lock and I am going to try the WD-40. Tthis is water resistant silicon and it is quick drying so in theory it should be great for doing a door lock. You can get rid of the water so you don’t have to worry about it freezing up and it’s going to quick it’s going to dry.
The biggest problem with car doors if they are sticking. A lot of calls we get people say “my key doesn’t work the door anymore” this usually solves a lot of the problems. Unless it’s a Honda. New Honda you have the dust cap so that’s the advantage of using the little little plastic piece and just spray it right in there now because this one’s sticking. I am putting a little bit more than normal work your key in and out. Don’t try to turn it just work your key in and out give it a little turn. Work it in and out. Now this one is not too bad and let’s give it some more. If for some reason this does not work you are going to work the key in and out. Ideally sometimes I use a blank to do this and try the other side and because this one has been giving trouble. If it doesn’t work pretty quick here spray it some more get it right in there and most times we have problems this fixes it.
If it doesn’t work let it sit for for you know a couple hours or a day go back next day. I would say about 80 of the time this fixes sticky door locks unless it’s a key problem. Or unless you have a Honda sidewinder, that’s another whole problem those locks fail. But the Fords, Toyotas, you know most cars, they have a good pretty good door locks not BMWs, the new BMWs that’s another story in itself but for fixing a sticky lock. This should do it right away almost you know a couple times.
WD40 Specialist Silicone For Locksmiths
The big mistake is they put the key in and out lots of times and get it all well lubricated now this is quick drying it’s not going to be wet it shouldn’t attract dirt and dust it should be pretty good. I think this will work out pretty good but I am going to test it and let’s see how it goes so far. In theory it sounds good. I like the products they make and let’s see how this works on a few other jobs.
This is new to me it’s WD-40 water resistant silicone and it is quick drying. This should be really good. The big problem is a lot of people go crazy you don’t have just give it a little squirt clean it off because this lock is is used pretty good.
There we go. It is quick drying, let’s just now show you the other places you should when you lubricate your lock where you should be lubricating. It should be and just give a little bit of lubricant oops just give a little bit of lubricant on the bolt itself. It does not take a lot, just a little bit and that’s about it. Except for what I like to do the hinges as well and while I will just do the hinges just just that’s a little bit too much just wipe it off it doesn’t take a lot this door has three hinges and it’s just a little bit let’s do the bottom one and now we’re good work it a little bit in the middle just just work a little bit that’s all. There is to it so doors are pretty simple fixing the sticky door lock and might as well do the hinges while we’re at it.
